The UK SEO Marketplace
August 23rd, 2006
I have spent a lot of time evaluating the SEO marketplace recently, in order to gauge the strength of the Online Marketing industry particularly round the North West of England. One of the major and probably most eye opening of observations has been the dramatic differences in perceived knowledge of SEO in particular.
In particular, the old school tricks that many traditional web development companies use as extentions to their core service, however many of these solutions are neither effective nor suitable.
Search Engine Marketing is still a fairly new service, however it already suffers from a fairly bad reputation in certain quarters as a black art and the like, and as one of my colleagues has said “it overrides the design”. In my opinion SEM and SEO in particular is an industry that could utilise a professional body dedicated to giving SEM a mainstream/corporate confidence and hopefully catapult it into the public eye. However getting both the public, and the sector educated has to be the first step in the process
